3 visitsBasic Space Requirements (Core Standard)
Front clearance (critical for playing)
Standard minimum open space in front of the backboard: 7 meters (20 ft)
For regular competitive play: reserve 9–10 meters
No obstacles (trees, garden walls, garden sheds, stone steps) in this landing area to avoid falls and collisions
Side & rear space
At least 1.5m of empty space on the left and right sides of the pole
Leave 1m behind the pole for maintenance and height adjustment operations
Standard rim height benchmark
Official height: 3.05m from ground to the top of the rim, reserve vertical clearance above the backboard of at least 1m.
2. Ground Condition Selection
Best ground
Compacted natural soil, flat lawn, solid gravel ground.
Acceptable ground
Flat concrete driveway (can also install wall-mounted hoops directly on the concrete wall).
Unusable ground
Sloped ground (causes the pole to tilt easily after concrete curing)
Muddy, sandy, loose filled soil (poor bearing capacity, foundation sinks over time)
Areas with dense tree roots (roots break concrete and shift the anchor sleeve)
Low-lying waterlogged areas (rainwater accumulates, concrete cracks, metal parts rust fast)

3. Distance Restrictions from Surroundings
Buildings & fences
Keep ≥3m away from house walls, garage doors, fences
Prevent basketballs hitting windows, siding, or damaging wall paint
Power lines & lighting
Minimum 5m horizontal and vertical distance from overhead power lines
Avoid mounting under overhead wires for safety
Pipes & underground facilities
Before digging the foundation hole, confirm no buried water pipes, gas pipes, optical cables, sewer lines underneath
Contact property or utility company to check underground lines first
4. Sun & Environment Suggestions
Do not place the hoop facing west directly: afternoon strong sunlight will glare when shooting
Coastal/rainy humid areas: avoid fully open positions with constant sea wind, accelerate rust of pole and brackets
If kids use it frequently: avoid positions adjacent to hard stone walls, concrete pillars to reduce collision risks
5. Wall-Mounted Fixed Hoop Special Location Rules
Only install on load-bearing solid walls: solid brick wall, reinforced concrete wall
Forbid hollow drywall, lightweight partition walls, hollow tile walls (cannot bear heavy load)
Wall height: the wall top must be at least 3.5m high to reach standard 3.05m rim height
The wall surface must be flat and intact, no large cracks or peeling cement
6. Safety Taboos for Location
Do not install above pedestrian walkways, vehicle parking spaces
Do not place near swimming pools, ponds (slip risk when chasing balls)
Avoid positions directly under tree branches (fallen branches damage backboard)
Keep away from children’s play equipment to prevent collision conflicts
