How to Install an In-Ground Fixed Basketball Hoop

Step 1: Choose the Right Location

Pick flat, firm ground, no soft mud or slopes.

Leave at least 7 meters of open space in front for playing.

Keep away from houses, fences, power lines and tree roots.

Standard rim height: 3.05 m (10 ft).

Step 2: Dig the Foundation Hole

Mark the center position of the basketball pole.

Dig a hole: 90–120 cm deep, 45–60 cm wide.

Clear all stones and roots inside the hole.

Lay 10 cm gravel at the bottom for drainage.

Step 3: Fix the Anchor Sleeve & Pour Concrete

Put the metal anchor sleeve in the center of the hole.

Use a level to make the sleeve perfectly vertical (check front and side).

Use wood stakes and planks to brace the sleeve tightly to avoid shifting.

Mix concrete with water and pour slowly into the hole.

Stir concrete with a stick to remove air bubbles.

Smooth the top concrete flat, clean cement off the sleeve.

Let concrete cure for at least 72 hours before installing the pole.

Step 4: Install the Main Pole

Remove all wooden braces after full curing.

Connect separate pole sections and tighten all bolts.

Lift the pole into the anchor sleeve (2–4 people needed for safety).

Adjust the pole to vertical with the built-in leveling nuts.

Tighten all anchor bolts firmly.

Step 5: Mount Backboard, Rim and Net

Install the support extension arms on the pole bracket.

Lift the backboard (glass backboards are heavy, need multiple people) and fix it to the arms.

Tighten all backboard bolts with washers and lock nuts.

Attach the basketball rim to the backboard and fasten completely.

Hang the net on the rim hooks.

Step 6: Final Check & Adjustment

Measure the rim height to confirm it is 3.05 m.

Recheck every bolt to make sure none are loose.

If it has a height adjustment function, test lifting up and down smoothly.

Spray anti-rust paint on metal parts if you live in humid or coastal areas.

Wall-Mounted Fixed Basketball Hoop (Alternative)

Only install on solid brick or concrete walls (hollow drywall cannot hold weight).

Mark mounting positions and drill holes into solid masonry.

Use heavy-duty expansion bolts to fix the wall bracket.

Install backboard, rim and net in order, tighten all fasteners.

Safety Notes

Do not work alone; heavy metal and glass parts may cause injuries.

Check all bolts every month to prevent loosening.

Do not swing or hang on the rim to avoid bending brackets.

Clear snow off the backboard in winter to reduce extra weight.
